In addition to its namesake, the Florida Black Bear, the corridor is a haven for species of many threatened and endangered species special concern, such as the Florida scrub-jay, found only in Florida, and the gopher tortoise. The vast mosaic of public lands along the corridor provide a home for these species, some of which are found nowhere else in the world but Florida.
