Marion County Commission issues proclamation of support |

On January 10, 2007, the Marion County Board of County Commissioners unanimously passed a proclamation of support for the designation of SR 40 as the Florida Black Bear Scenic Byway.
Text of Proclamation RESOLUTION NO. 07-RA RESOLUTION OF THE BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF MARION COUNTY, FLORIDA, SUPPORTING THE DESIGNATION OF FLORIDA STATE ROAD 40 BETWEEN SILVER SPRINGS AND INTERSTATE 95 AS A FLORIDA SCENIC HIGHWAY AND NATIONAL SCENIC BYWAY, PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, a Corridor Advocacy Group has been formed for the proposed Florida Black Bear Scenic Byway, as required by Florida and United States Statutes for the designation and implementation of a Florida Scenic Highway and National Scenic Byway, respectively; and,
WHEREAS, the Florida Scenic Highway and National Scenic Byway proposed by the Florida Black Bear Scenic Byway Conidor Advocacy Group begins at the intersection of State Roads 40 and 35 at Silver Springs in Marion County, proceeds easterly on State Road 40 for approximately 60 miles through the counties of Marion, Lake and Volusia, and ends at the intersection of State Road 40 and Interstate 95 in the City of Ormond Beach; and,
WHEREAS, the purpose of the scenic highway designation is to protect, enhance, preserve and maintain the intrinsic resources of the designated corridor, while utilizing these resources for appropriate economic development, recreation, and tourism; and,
WHEREAS, significant benefits of additional economic development, recreational amenities, resource conservation, aesthetic enhancement and public education can result from the scenic highway designations; and,
WHEREAS, the Corridor Management Plan which will delineate the implementation of the goals and objectives of the scenic highway program will be developed and implemented with the local governments of the jurisdictions through which the corridor passes, without state or federal restrictions on land use within the corridor by virtue of the designation;
now therefore BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of County Commissioners of Marion County, Florida: SECTION 1. The Board of County Commissioners of Marion County, Florida (Board) supports the designation of Florida State Road 40, lying between State Road 35 in Marion County and Interstate 95 in the City of Ormond Beach, as a Florida Scenic Highway and National Scenic Byway.
SECTION 2. The Board authorizes the County Administrator to participate in supporting the effort to designate Florida State Road 40 as a Florida Scenic Highway and National Scenic Byway.
SECTION 3. All resolutions or parts of resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
SECTION 4. A copy of this resolution shall be spread upon the minutes and official records of the Board of County Commissioners of Marion County, Florida, and sent to the Florida Department of Transportation, Florida Department of Community Affairs, and the Governor of the State of Florida.
SECTION 5. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption. DULY ADOPTED in regular session of the Board of County Commissioners of Marion County, Florida, on the day of January 10, 2007. |
